What speeds can I expect?
- Download speeds: Up to 50 Mbps
- Upload speeds: Up to 20 Mbps
What is my download limit?
Your data allowance will be unlimited.
Do I need a new modem?
Unless we have replaced your existing modem recently, there is a good chance that you will need a new modem. Before your appointment, we’ll send out a preconfigured NBN compatible modem.
Can I use my own modem?
Yes, you can. As long as your existing modem is NBN compatible, you can use your own modem.
If this is the case, please let us know when you submit your application.
How much does it cost?
Much like the ADSL service we provide to kindergartens, there are no on-going monthly costs.
There may be costs associated with getting the connection up and running if you require internal wiring in your building. Your kindergarten would be responsible for these costs.
The Kindergarten IT Program will only cover the cost of the internet. Your kindergarten is still responsible for phone costs.
Is my kindergarten ready to connect to the NBN?
Head over to the NBN address checker, it will tell you if you can connect to the NBN, the type of NBN you’ll receive and when the NBN will be available in your area.
Can I choose the timing for when the installation will take place?
NBN Co will usually provide a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) appointment. We will let you know when your your installation is scheduled. If you would like your appointment to be rescheduled, let us know and we’ll try our best to accommodate you.
Do I have to connect to the NBN?
Yes, the NBN is compulsory for all homes and businesses in Australia. Once the new network arrives, your existing phone and internet connections will be switched off, usually within around 18 months.
Note: the copper network within NBN Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster Satellite areas will not be switched off.
Who is my internet service provider?
The Kindergarten IT Program is the account holder. Technical support and all enquiries are handled by us. The connection is provided by an ISP of our choosing.
Do I have to use the internet provided by the Kindergarten IT program?
No, you do not. However if you choose to go with another provider, we cannot provide technical support for the internet and we will not cover the costs of the connection.
If I do use another internet service, can I keep my email address?
Yes, you can keep your email address.
Can I change the type of NBN I’m going to get?
Yes, you may be able to change the type of NBN you’ll receive, but be aware it can be very expensive. The Kindergarten IT Program will not cover any costs associated with this change of service.
To change the type of NBN connection you receive, visit the NBN’s ‘Technology Choice Program’ and request an ‘Individual Premises Switch’.
Keep in mind that you will need to meet the eligibility criteria. Also depending on the complexity of your connection, there may be some costs involved.
These can vary from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars for large, complex areas.
If your address is approved and you decide to go ahead, NBN will charge a $660 (including GST) Build Quote Fee.
If I change my phone service provider, can I keep my phone number?
Yes, you can keep your phone number. Contact the new phone company and request a port. The new phone company will then contact your current phone company to arrange this. You can find out more information on the Australian Communications and Media Authority website.
Do NBN technicians have Working with Children checks?
As this is not a legal requirement, we cannot ensure that NBN technicians will have a Working with Children check.
What do I need to do with my alarm system?
Have a chat with your alarm system company and make sure your alarm system is NBN compatible.
Will my fax machine work over the NBN network?
Some fax machines will work using the analogue telephone adapter (ATA). However, due to the nature of the NBN and how voice and fax calls are transmitted over the internet, some machines will not work reliably using the ATA.
We recommend that you use your new NBN connection as an opportunity to move away from fax services.
