Classroom Courses for May 2019

We are launching trials of our new courses, some developed with a focus on ways of using technology with children.

The courses offered:

Who can attend?

The training is available to Kindergarten IT Program member kindergartens throughout Victoria. Classes are provided free of charge and delivered in small groups of 10 people in face to face sessions.

The Courses:

Create Portfolios in Word - 301

Overview: Become familiar with basic layout techniques using Microsoft Office Word, then practise adding images, WordArt, text and styles to create a Portfolio template that is easy to modify

Who is the course for: This introductory level course is aimed at Kindergarten and early learning staff who want to improve their skills at creating portfolio documents using Microsoft Word.

Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of how to use Microsoft Word


Technology for Kindergartens - 904

Technology for kids (plus robots!)

Overview: This course is a practical introduction to using digital technologies as a learning tool with kindergarten children. Participants will experiment with plugged (powered technology) and unplugged (tech-less) activities to develop their understanding of how digital technologies can be used as a learning tool. They will gain an understanding of how to develop computational thinking skills and how they can be applied to plugged and unplugged activities. Using paper based activities and plugged devices such as Beebot, Cubetto and Dash robots, participants will have a fun hands on experience and provided with a sample paper based activity to take away which can be used at their kindergarten.

Who is the course for: The training is open to kindergarten teachers, assistants and committee members who have an interest in developing the use of digital technologies at their kindergarten and would like to explore a variety of activities in a fun, practical way.

Pre-requisites: There are no pre-requisites for this course. It is for beginners.


Making creative posters - 903

Overview: This course introduces how to produce beautiful, attention grabbing posters to communicate learning experiences with children, parents and colleagues. Participants will learn how to use free content creation tool, Adobe Spark. Practical activities cover how to work with Adobe Spark on both desktop and mobile device to effectively combine text and visual message. Consideration for privacy and copyright are covered.

Who is the course for: The training is open to kindergarten teachers, assistants and committee members who have an interest in making use of copyright free images and new design applications or need new ideas for presenting posters or flyers.

Pre-requisites: Operate a personal computer (PC) and basic familiarity with using an iPad.


Using iPads for Creativity - 503

Overview: This session will demonstrate ways of integrating iPads into learning experiences for kindergarten children. Staff will be shown key recommended apps that can be used with children to enhance a learning experience including augmented reality apps, green screen apps and more. This session will also share handy tips and tricks for managing iPad's such as how to disable web access, how to lock an iPad down to one app on screen etc.

Who is the course for: The training is open to kindergarten teachers, assistants and committee members who are seeking some new ideas on creative uses of iPads.

Pre-requisites: Basic familiarity with using an iPad.


Cloud services and file management - 902

Overview: This training session explains what cloud services are an introduces some common cloud products used for sharing and managing files. Privacy and confidentiality considerations are covered. Working on both desktop and mobile, practical activities step through file management, recovery and managing access and collaboration.

Who is the course for: This intermediate level course is aimed at kindergarten and early learning staff who want are seeking an introduction to using some of the well-known cloud services now.

Pre-requisites: Operate a personal computer (PC) and basic familiarity with using an iPad.
